CUPACLAD reigns in central London mansard renovation
The Blackfriars district, nestled in central London and bordered by the Thames, is rich in historical and listed buildings. Among these stands the recently refurbished building at 30-34 New Bridge Street, now crowned with a stunning CUPACLAD mansard.
The building’s two-story mansard was originally clad in Westmorland slate. However, the renovation plans called for a high-quality, aesthetically pleasing replacement. Our natural slate emerged as the ideal choice, bringing both durability and elegance to the project.
The building houses commercial offices, and its entire façade makes a beautiful statement. From the rooftop terrace, you can even enjoy stunning views of the river.
Victor Wakefield, director at Roof Brothers LTD, commented:
The CUPACLAD system always exceeds expectations and we never fail to receive positive feedback once a CUPACLAD project is complete. The design, quality and natural appearance of the product makes it more appealing than other cladding systems.
However, CUPACLAD was not chosen solely for its natural beauty and elegance. To comply with the latest building regulations, the solution for the mansard needed to be non-combustible.
Approved Document B recommends that “in relation to buildings of any height or use, consideration should be given to the choice of materials […] used for the external wall […] to reduce the risk of the spread of fire”.
Building (Amendment) Regulations 2018/1230 classifies a mansard roof as a wall, so a non-combustible fire rated solution was sought for the refurbishment of the building’s mansard roof.
In addition to natural slate—an A1-rated, non-combustible material, the highest rating possible—the CUPACLAD systems include stainless steel fixings and aluminum alloy brackets.
We take pride in helping our clients achieve their goals on time and with the necessary quality, ensuring they feel supported and value our assistance. As Victor Wakefield states:
The team at CUPA PIZARRAS are professional and approachable and the support we have received has been exceptional.
