Eight reasons to celebrate the World Environment Day
World Environment Day is celebrated on 5th June every year to raise awareness and action for the protection of the planet and the natural resources. Slate is a completely natural product, and respecting the environment is at the core of our values.
Here at CUPA PIZARRAS we work hard every day to become more sustainable, but on a day like today we would like to share some of the goals and achievements that highlight our commitment to the environment.
-
Zero chemical products
Just a manual craft is almost all the transformation the slate needs from the quarry to the final destination on roofs and façades.
-
Quarry rehabilitations
We try to give back to nature everything we take from it. When a quarry is finished, we start a process to rehabilitate the environment through hydroseeding and other restoration techniques.
-
Durability
The lifetime of slate lasts for more than a hundred years, avoiding the need to produce replacement slates. This means that fewer resources used including those employed in the process such as waste, emissions, transformation or transport. The environmental performance of the slate is very high.
-
Water recycling
Water is one of the most precious resources and without it the extraction and shaping of the slate would be impossible. We have implemented closed circuits to minimize the waste.
-
Transport
It is the cause of more than 30% of the CO2 emissions in the EU. To contribute our grain of sand, we have implemented programs like the collective transport for employees and the maritime shipping of our products.
-
Carbon neutrality
The EU aims to be climate-neutral by 2050, which means an economy with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. We are working to announce very soon that we have already achieved this goal.
-
Energy efficiency
The three main trends of the contemporary constructions are sustainable buildings, energy efficiency and accessibility. Thanks to its natural properties, natural slate contributes to achieve a good energy efficiency, either on the roof or the façade.
-
Fight against climate change
We are working on a new policy to fight against climate change. We are aware this is one of the biggest challenges we face as a species and we want to be part of the solution. Young people are more concerned than ever and we want to give them the best planet possible.
