CUPACLAD adds character and performance to a Passive House project in Massachusetts

Leland House is the latest project by 2Life Communities, designed to provide affordable housing for adults over 62 near the Waltham Library. More than just a place to live, it fosters a warm and welcoming community. To bring this vision to life, CUPACLAD was chosen for the façade, perfectly meeting the project’s aesthetic and performance needs.

The three-story, 68-unit building was designed by the architectural firm PCA Design and built by Dellbrook as the general contractor. This project has received Passive House certification showcasing the focus on a healthy, climate-resilient, affordable and energy -efficient building. Recently opened, Leland House is already enriching the local community, providing much-needed housing and amenities.

The CUPACLAD installation was done by Bridgeline Exteriors. Even though it was their first experience with our natural slate façades, they previously had success installing products they had never used before.

Rachana Kheraj, Executive VP of Business Development in the company, said:

Onsite support is typically lacking with manufacturers, but what was provided was extremely helpful. You guys made it very straightforward

Our commercial and technical team worked closely with the client to ensure an efficient and precise installation. Thanks to this collaboration, material waste was kept to a minimum—only six slates remained at the end of the project, reflecting careful planning and responsible resource management.

All parties involved appreciated CUPACLAD, not only for its aesthetics but also for its ease of installation, which remained hassle-free even during winter.

Bridgeline Exteriors found that labor costs for CUPACLAD were lower than for seemingly similar products like Qwick Slate. Additionally, the installation process proved to be much simpler with CUPACLAD. As Rachana Kheraj emphasized:

If a client is interested in slate, I will go CUPACLAD all the way

As you can see in the images, the building now looks amazing. The job was executed flawlessly, and Bridgeline Exteriors has already become one of our preferred installers for the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast regions of the U.S.
