Natural slate specified for stunning barn renovations in Yorkshire
Andas Homes has chosen our natural roofing slate for a series of barn house renovations in Wetherby, West Yorkshire. Committed to creating sustainable homes, the team sought eco-friendly materials that align with their vision. Our natural slate proved to be the perfect fit for their project goals.
Built more than 160 years ago, these barns have been thoughtfully transformed into a collection of beautiful family homes. The renovation focused on preserving space and ensuring high-quality finishes, while enhancing the stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
The architects behind the project, Dormer & Co., recommended our natural slate after attending one of our CPD sessions. They later met with our local sales representative to learn more about our company and the sustainability credentials of our products.

With a focus on biophilic design, Andas Homes seeks to ensure every one of its projects is designed with a real connection to the nature. This includes using materials that are non-toxic, eco-friendly and sustainable. As such, the team were looking for a sustainable roofing solution for the barns that would also complement the original design features.
Michael Simpson from Andas Homes commented:
We loved the finish of the CUPA PIZARRAS natural slate. We specified the use of the slate due to its sustainable properties and found that it was perfect fit for our desired aesthetic.
Natural slate boasts the lowest carbon footprint of any roofing material. Its production process is remarkably efficient, requiring minimal water and involving no chemicals. Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our achievements: Net Zero certification, an EcoVadis Gold Medal, and BRE Global verification for our Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).
The project’s contractor, Cousin’s Roofing, had previously worked with our slate and also encouraged its use for this project. Despite dealing with some difficult design aspects, such as sprocketed eaves, which led in to hips only wide enough for one slate, the roofer, Phil Marson, said:
The product is a great natural slate to use and always looks amazing when it is laid correctly. We often recommend it when asked what product would look nice on a project.
